AIC seeks a faculty director to develop and implement its continuing education, dual credit, certificate, and dual degree programs. The director will teach in these programs, coordinate faculty-led certificate programs in their areas of expertise, and recruit talent to offer courses or learning modules to the wider public in content that advances AIC鈥檚 broader mission. Where necessary, the director will design and manage 鈥渂ridge鈥 programs that develop pathways for students in other institutions to either receive certificates or degrees from AIC. The director will work with the faculty to grow our partnerships by designing tailored curricula for partner institutions, when feasible. The position also requires the overseeing of AIC鈥檚 cultural immersion programs that offer opportunities to learn through 鈥渆ncounter鈥 in in-person intensive programs within the city of Chicago and its many suburbs.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the lead administrator for all aspects of continuing education and institutional partnerships
- Design and teach the equivalent of a 2/2 course load in the continuing education program and/or in AIC鈥檚 degree programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels
- Develop partnerships with institutions in Chicago and around the world
- Offer intensive courses at partner sites in the United States and globally
Advise and mentor students
Qualifications:
- Ability to function effectively and respectfully in both modern academic and traditional Islamic institutions of learning
- PhD from an accredited American University in Islamic Studies or a related field with a publication record commensurable to years of professional experience
- Additional training in Islamic studies in a traditional setting preferred
- At least seven years of teaching in a professional academic environment after the PhD with a minimum of three years as a dean, department head, or program director
- Fluency or proficiency in Arabic and a second Islamicate language
- A creative and entrepreneurial spirit, excellent communication skills, willingness to teach online, openness to traveling for in-person intensives
